Milestone Birthday...

I wanted to do something special for my good friend Bob Nathanson who was turning 60. His wife Elise secretly sent me a few dozen old photos to help me get started. Inspired by the best selling book The DaVinci Code, I wrote a story in which the photos held clues to help solve a mystery.

• I'm 4 Years Old
While living in New York City, my wife and I became good friends with Rob and Amy Roy. Their first child, Marcella, celebrated herfourth birthday with a visit to the Central Park Children's Zoo. I took along my video camera to document the event. My wife wrote a childlike poem to accompany the images. Marcella is much older now but still enjoys watching this special birthday present.

• Joan's Excellent Adventure
I'm lucky to have friends of all ages. I was invited to Joan Berner's 80th birthday celebration where I was treated to a chartered boat ride around Manhattan including champagne and cutting of the cake at twilight at the foot of the Statue of Liberty. I took a lot of still shots and surprised Joan with a video slideshow recounting the special occasion.

• A Place for CoUSins
Two of my nieces were graduating from high school. Close as sisters, they were never apart in all of their 18 years. Now their lives were to change radically. I was curious about how they felt about the forthcoming changes in their lives and how it would affect their relationship. Using interviews, still photos and video I'd shot off and on while they were growing up, I was able to shape a story that was more than just about their graduation.

Weddings...

• I've Been Meaning to Tell You...
It's the night before the wedding. The young couple can't sleep. They're text messaging... last minute confessions, the little things they forgot to tell each other. This video is a wedding present for my niece, Shea McClanahan and her husband, Tom Lavers.

• Ringfinger
My brother-in-law is a James Bond fanatic, so when he married my wife's sister I immediately thought of a 007 theme for a video as a wedding gift. I wasn't able to attend the wedding but had relatives take my flash video camera to the event and capture what they could.

Just For Fun...

• Disc Golf on Hunting Island
My wife and I went camping with friends at Hunting Island State Park in the low country of South Carolina. Several of the guys we were with took off after breakfast to play disc golf on the beach. I'd never heard of the game but was curious to see how it was played. I grabbed my flash video camera and tagged along. The game began on the sunny beach and ended in the misty woods . After the game I shot interviews with the four players. This 5-minute video is the result.

• Brazen Bells
I challenged myself to create a video from Edgar Allan's poem "The Bells" using only images, sound effects and text on screen. I think it turned out to be as hypnotic as the poem itself. After viewing this you might feel like you've been put through the wringer.
