This city's namesake, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, as portrayed by actress Christy Pleasant mingles with the "commoners" on social occasions and imparts interesting facts, not only about her life as wife to King George III with whom she bore 15 children, but also her patronage of J.C. Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, her efforts as a botanist to expand Kew Gardens and her introduction of the Christmas tree to England.  Ms. Pleasant has carefully researched this amazing woman's life achievements to bring her to life through authentic costume, make-up and accent.

• The New, Modern Woman of Charlotte
Here's a good example of a collaboration among institutions that really works. First you have an art museum with a dynamite exhibit of Coco Chanel designs. Then you have the Art Institute of Charlotte full of creative stylists and photographers. Put them together and the mash up produces some extraordinary results as you'll see in my video, and serves an added benefit of enticing young creative types into a museum they may never would have set foot in.
