What I Do

Thanks to today's digital technology it's easier than ever to inexpensively capture events in our lives with a still or video camera. But this sudden accumulation of images can prove overwhelming. Hundreds of photos stored on your computer, CDs or DVDs can be as difficult to manage as a shoe box of old snapshots.

I'm interested in transforming your aging irreplaceable photographs or footage into a format that will be eagerly watched. I've had experience with organizing large collections of images - stills and video - and shaping them into an entertaining story. During the past 10 years my family and friends have been the subjects of many of my videos. Please take a look at my sampling of work. Each is unique and custom designed to fit the occasion. Finding a new approach for each project is what I most enjoy.

I also enjoy working with individuals and groups to document events and to organize and shape images into meaningful, entertaining stories. Please note, I'm not a wedding photographer even though I have shot and edited several wedding videos. If you're looking for a unique approach to documenting a wedding then I can help you; otherwise, I suggest shopping for someone who specializes in wedding photography.

The older generation has valuable stories to tell. I've learned several techniques for conducting interviews where the subjects feel comfortable and openly tell their stories. I've interviewed many interesting people over the years including Julia Child, Peter Maxx, Doug Marlette and my mother-in-law.

Maybe you'd like to produce your own video using your computer but aren't feeling confident enough to handle the built-in applications. I'm experienced with Mac programs such as iMovie™ and iDVD™ as well as other image editing programs including Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Flash and After Effects. I'm available to conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions to help you create your own videos.

I've been able to apply the skills I've learned as a former producer/writer of programs for PBS to produce professional quality "home" videos. Sometimes the challenge is to tell a story using images from the past. Sometimes I've documented an important family event and shaped it into an entertaining video. And sometimes it's the combination of images from the "now" and the "then" that proves to be the most satisfying.
